You are 100% correct. Unfortunately when the odds get really good the tickets are often hard to find. States play games like this too when they just phase out tickets when the odds get really good. That being said I like to keep my eye out for the good ones, especially if I'm traveling and am passing through smaller towns/gas stations.

I bought a batch of $5 PA scratchers and always scan them after scratching using the ticket checker feature of the phone app. One of the tickets was clearly a $20 winner. When I scanned it, the app said it was a $10 winner. I scanned a second ticket that was clearly NOT a winner. The app said it was a $10 winner, too. The app had been running slow and I set the tickets aside to check again later.

Always smart to scan everything. In PA, they've started using odd typefaces that can be difficult to read and complicated add-on prizes. I think the whole point of that is that some players will get confused and toss out winners. That could be what happened with the game you're trying to find. Some of those big winners may have ended up in a trash heap just because a percentage of players don't scan anything.

Can't find a way to be certain, but looking at the jackpot chances, the recent $30 scratchers appear to have a ticket count between 4.8 and 5.4 million. Odds of a $3 million win on this one is listed as 1 in 1.6 million, which I'm assuming means a ticket run of 4.8 million. Another relatively recent $30 scratcher with 5 top prizes shows odds of 1 in 960 thousand, which also adds up to a ticket run of 4.8 million.

Compared to scratchers, it seems I win more often with online.

I once played a $10 online ticket on a whim and won $2,500. Wins of $25, $50 or $100 on the $5-$30 tickets is common. I've even found certain times seem to win more than others (early am before 630 am or after 1030 pm).

Try your luck on a couple and note win times.

Does the game have a 10X symbol multiplier? If so that might be the reason. I'm not familiar with NY Lotto tickets but in FL if a game has a multiplier or multipliers then the corresponding number will be excluded from the population of potential numbers that can be found under the Your Numbers and Winning Numbers areas. Evidently some people cannot differentiate between a multiplier symbol vs the corresponding multiplier number (e.g 10X vs 10 ).

Happy New Year LP'ers! I wasn't able to pick up any PA raffle tickets, but will try again next year.

Was 0 for 15 in the VA raffle this year and have NEVER hit anything EVER. Thinking about total lifetime tickets, just makes me shake my head in disbelief. Just like everyone else, not even a crumb of the pie to cover the cost of tickets each drawing. But, every year my mind says you only need ONE to hit and SOMEONE (or a handful of people) do it each year . It was fun and exciting, but ho... [ More ]

Skeptic. I was thinking the same as PA has that same feature. Before they had the app to check for winners, you could still use the app to enter 2nd chance. Well you could use that feature to technically check winners, but they would lock you out after 6 invalid entry attempts.

I'm only familiar with scratch games in Florida so my info is limited to that state, and I probably will not touch on all your points. The Fl Lotto will never confirm such information, but in following games here it's clear that top prizes are seeded evenly throughout a game's run, thus when a game reaches 50% sold it's fair to consider half of the top prizes have been sold too.

This can be inferred through a couple data points... [ More ]

I cashed in a $30 to start and then just scratched the code at the machine.

They finally posted a pdf of all the prize levels. I'm really surprised some of the 7 figure prizes are annuities, like a $20 scratcher with a top prize of 5 million paid out over 25 years! LOL, what a gyp. I can't find the lump sum equivalent on the website, is it on the fine print on the back of the cards? Or is there no option to take a lump sum

Machine was on 029 and lost. Stopped another place and maybe got back 50% on what they had left. Stopped at the place next to a pizza joint. Figured all the smaller places would still have them. I got the final 9 tickets.. ALL LOST!!!! Yep, everyone.

They generate in packs If you buy 5 in a row, no guarantee you actually get 5 concurrent tickets cause of others playing around the state. I have a $20 Extreme Green in front of me. 5051-0001514-190.. 5051 is Game #. 0001514 is pack # and 190 is ticket #. Seems that all packs goto 999 instead of a normal $20 ticket going from 000-029. Hence why we are still only on pack 1514.. Pack of 30- $20 tickets generally pays $360 out of $600. Wish there was a way to know how much payback is in a pack of 1... [ More ]
