A longtime Maryland Lottery player made a trip to Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Sept. 13 to collect his third five-figure prize in two decades.

This time, he brought his wife and friends to experience the round of applause and royal treatment that big winners get when they enter the Winner's Circle at Lottery headquarters.

The happy grandfather found his latest top-prize win with a Super Bonus Bucks scratch-off. The 67-year-old visited one of his favorite Lottery retailers, Newtown Market in Pocomoke City, and bought just one of the $5 games.

"I get in the truck and I scratch it off and I see the $50,000," he said. "I had to sit there for five minutes."

His wife, who works in elder care, was attending a meeting so he couldn't share his great news with her immediately. The retail employee headed home and reached her by phone later. He shared news of his big win by saying, "I've got to go to Baltimore in a few weeks or so."

"I just thought, 'Oh, thank you, Lord!' " said his wife.

The $50,000 top prize was the Worcester County resident's third big Maryland Lottery win. In 2009, he claimed a $30,000 scratch-off prize and also has a previous $50,000 win to his name. His new prize will go straight to savings, he said.

The Super Bonus Bucks game still has plenty of prizes awaiting discovery. Players can search for the four $50,000 remaining top prizes, 10 $5,000 prizes and 18 $1,000 prizes.

The lucky Lottery retailer is also a winner. Newtown Market at 132 Newtown Boulevard in Pocomoke City earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off in the game. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

l swear, there are more elderly persons winning jackpots and racking in the money than folk under 30. From the divine Ms Gloria to the Robinsons, you know those folk who have a home so big, they can house a third of the population of Nigeria.

I guess the saying is true: One would rather win as a 60 something,  than continue to lose as a 20 something.

Oh, to be old..

As a 60 something, my advise is to don't rush it. You'll get there soon enough.

l will remind myself of that Rcb, when l get there. A case could also be made that more seniors play the lottery than youngsters. They more into drugs & booze. Winning at any age is a great motto, however imagine winning “ Waking Ned Divine” and not living to see your fortune? That’s one thing, people prying your winning ticket from your fingers....inconceivable.
