Connecticut Lottery

WOLCOTT, Ct. — Police in a small Connecticut town said a former gas station worker in stole more than $25,000 in scratch-off lottery ticket revenue from the business.

Juliana Perillo, 55,was charged with first-degree larceny Monday in connection to lottery revenue that went missing from Petro Pat's in Wolcott. She was released on a promise to appear and is next scheduled to appear in court on July 2.

Police said Perillo faked numbers on a store log sheet to make it seem like customers had returned their lottery tickets for a refund. She then used the money from the nonexistent refunds to buy more tickets.

According to the police, Perillo stole more than $4,400 worth of tickets in one month alone. Authorities said that her scheme lasted 10 months.

Perillo has been fired and denies the thefts, saying that due to medical issues, she may have hit the wrong buttons on the register. (LOL)

Hitting the “ Wrong button defense” just might work. Decades ago a character out in SF blamed the consumption of too many Twinkie’s in he’s defense for killing the Mayor of San Francisco.

Juliana has a chance, it is a slim one, but a chance nonetheless.Big Smile

I hope that Julian Perillo was attempting to ruin her life because she did that. Smash

Hum, well maybe Juliana will finally become lucky by her judge becoming trained to think that a "log sheet" somehow contains buttons.

Dupe Alert

Her little "granchildren"  will still be able to see her on Saturdays or Sundays between the hours of 1 to 5pm.

Umm, you can return lottery for a refund?!?

Sure I've seen where a seller might print up a wrong ticket, then they tape it to the counter for someone to buy (and a few big winners this way), but rarely. And those tickets weren't sold in the first place.

As for scratchers, if they tear off the wrong ticket behind the counter, I see it and stop them before they ring it up.  Sometimes I just bought it anyway, who knows if it's a winner.

I was thinking about the good ole days when you could get away with Grand Larceny , now.....Thud

I've got to give her a little credit on her scheme, though simple it worked for a short while.  Too many checks and balances to pull off something so blatant against your lottery or employer.

The other half of me kind of feels sorry for her.  One never knows what dire straits someone may be going through and she might have done this out of desperation.  Just hope she shows up for 2 JUL 18 court appearance.

If anyone knows anything about accounting, the pluses and minuses have to always equal zero.

By her taking tickets and not paying for them would certainly throw off the tally sheet.

Most stores having more than one shift would mean that other people would need to count the tickets at the end of their shift. Her stealing tickets would be found sooner or later.

The numbers never lie, only dishonest people do! No No

You mean out of $25,000.00 worth of tickets, she didn't find any million dollar winners???

That is NOT good!

I find this story intriguring. Perillo denies the thefts. She may have hit the
wrong buttons on the register , due to medical issues. {LOL} Now, if her
medical issues are eyesight, a neurological condition ...etc..Anything she
had written should been hard to read. Which could explain the store Log
Sheet. It's possible.
Account sheets don't lie. This is the interesting part. Petro Pat's is own private.
Gasoline Service Stations with sales under $500,000 a year. It has 1 - 5
employees the owner is already included I will not be surprise if another
employee is related to the owner. You count the tills each night. Each new
shift you count the person drawer then they count it. If the drawers is short. You both count it
again. If a person is allegedly stealing at the rate of $600. + dollars per week,
$2,500. per month. [Red Flag !] this person should been fired in two weeks.
You're vendors delivery is weekly, your gas supply come one a week. You,
order your Lottery Tickets one's a week. You get them the next week. So, the
numbers on the tickets are recorded the minute the stack is activated. [Red
Flag] invalid numbers won't get a refund the lottery book keeping is accurate.
again something that could been detected in two week or checked.
Now, this company needed a audit & still do. They need a better book keeper.
Everything here could been handle in less the a month not 10 months.
So if I was doing this company books for Tax purposes, exemptions for last 4 years.
