An Estero man is taking home millions in Florida Lotto winnings, according to the Florida Lottery.

Niranjan Patel, 41, claimed the $15.5 million jackpot from the drawing held Feb. 6 at the Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee, a press release states.

Patel chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $10,539,204.33, according to the release.

The jackpot-winning Florida Lotto Quick Pick ticket was purchased from a Publix at 2465 Glades Circle in Weston, Florida.

The retailer will receive a bonus commission of $100,000 for selling the ticket.

This is the second time in nearly a year that a south Lee County resident has raked in a big Lotto prize.

In 2018, Quinn Kofler, a 19-year-old Florida Gulf Coast University student from Bonita Springs, won an $11.1 million lump-sum payout in a scratch-off game. Kofler purchased the winning ticket at a 7-Eleven in Bonita Springs, near Fort Myers on the Gulf Coast.

The next Florida Lotto drawing will be held at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, with a $3 million jackpot.

Congratulations Mr. Patel on winning the mechanical ball Florida Lotto.  The retailer didn't do so bad either!

One Patel is collecting his money, while the other is still in limbo. Kudo's to Florida for having a better playout for stores that sell the winning ticket. I mean, Florida pays out $100K on a $15mil jackpot, while SC  pays out $50K on a $1.5 Bil jackpot? Where is the justice in that?

Thanks noise-gate.  Was going to put that in my post too.

One thing to consider how much larger the Florida lottery is versus the SCEL and much more populous and most of FL more prosperous than SC.  Also the rules will be different.

Congratulations to Niranjan Patel. The $10.5 million can last a lifetime. Beware of false friends.

So BD, going with your explanation, if you win $15 mil in the SC lottery, the store would receive ( if my math is correct Approve) a $72.13 payout. That's precious!

I believe here in KY it is 1% of sales in KY only when a jackpot is one.  It can get up there if the jackpot is sky high and won here.  Don't know the formula for SCEL.  Some states give nothing, right??

I think it should not matter, imo, (in my opinion)which state is a bigger one et.al., it should be for per store to win, a whopping $100,000 for sure, and IF over a certain amount yep.Cheers wow. i am glad for the man who won, congrats mr.patel.

A story to share with my lp members:

Today, i had a very  INTERESTING"conversation" with the NC LOTTERY CLAIM(s) clerk today...

@ 2:45 p.m.: I cashed in MULTIPLE wins= NICE lil jackpot for me again with Pick 4 wins... I had earlier went to RALEIGH CLAIM $$$ again, they are used to me eventually going to get a check or more, (from a multiple # nice win $$$) used of seeing me several x a year i win P4 my thousands, and i was there todayLOLthe clerk go, "You again Ms.Cassie ---- and i am like, Yyyep. GIve me my check $$$ LOL i am here again!LOL and they be like, You should really play big games too! Hurray! You're very lucky the lottery raleigh clerk says, every other month  on P4 games lol so you should PLAY MEGA regularly Cash 5 PB, keno! So, i told her while waiting on my four checks to be cut, i said:

Nope... Not really playing bigger games, etc., because, "'My father says no."Not a good game for "us" here in nc LOL

I  tell the lottery claims clerk, "'Dad say it's all rigged, becauseONE person win, when it is sky-high over 50 to 100 million or 1 billionYes Nod it should be dozens PER STATE, period. and the clerk "whisper to me, you know what?" I feel the same way she whisper to me handing me my nice few P4' checks!!$$$

She admit:

I feel the same way, Cassie, i really do, same as many other lottery worker's for years that MORE winner's should at least have4 or 5 numbers + or

5 numbers alone "when it's that high etc." she admitted  this and go, "I bet if more stop playing it one time, they will anti-up the wins for more per state, not just 1 or 2, when its that high!" She really said this to me. The NC LOTTERY CLERK, said this to me today and then she had wish me luck,

and said try at least a few x a month and SmileyKENO! so i got a few for the week, but i usually do not play bigger games, 1x or 2 if that, each other month.

Good luck BLUE, and everyone with your favie' lottery games.

Patel is a common name in India like Smith, Jones, Brown, etc. Lots of stores all over the country are owned in operated by members of the Patel family and most of their stores have lottery terminals.

"What gives ?"

You answered your own question; I don't know which last name in the U.S. has won the most $1 million jackpots, but I'll bet it's a common name.
