Lucky for Life

Ever since he won $500 in the lottery 20 years ago, one 65-year-old New Castle, Delaware, man has been playing the same numbers over and over, hoping they'd pay off again.

On Sept. 9, they finally did, winning him $25,000 per year for life in the Lucky for Life drawing.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased the ticket at Dave's Liquors in New Castle, the state lottery office said. He matched all five numbers.

"I thought I was dreaming," the man said when he learned that he had won. "I was one away from the big one (matching 5 numbers and the Lucky Ball), but that's okay. This is still such a great win!"

The man opted for the lump-sum payment of $390,000. After taxes, he will take home $296,400.

"There were two national second-prize Lucky for Life winners in the Sept. 9 drawing — each winning $25,000 a year for life," said Vernon Kirk, Director of the Delaware Lottery, in a statement.

"It's so exciting that one of them is from right here in Delaware."

Lucky for Life drawings take place every Monday and Thursday. The game's top prize is $1,000 a day for life.

The odds of winning are 1 in 30,821,472.

The odds of winning the second prize are 1 in 1,813,028.

When asked what he was planning to do with his winnings, the man said: "I'm pretty laid back and don't spend money on expensive things. I just want to help a few people out and save the rest."

He claimed his prize from lottery headquarters on Sept. 11.

Smart man going anonymous.   Saturday @ our annual festival lady walks up to me and says 'Hi Jeff, how are you'?  I'm terrible @ names but said I'm fine, yourself?  I know she was the last multi million dollar winner of the former KY lottery draw game.   Now if we had anonymity would not have known that for what it's worth.   She used to work in my bank as a teller, guess she loves money.   Believe she won $3 million.

In the Army Phil Donahue's Brother was a CSM Stationed @ Ft. Meade, MD.   He looked just like him walking down the hall of our hospital.   I just smiled.

Ft Monmouth's hospital OR Secretary is the Sister-in-Law to Michael Jordan while I was stationed there.  No pictures of Michael anywhere, but she sure drove a very nice car.  Her Husband then was in E7 @ one of the units there.
