A Dublin, Ireland, couple went on vacation with a wining lottery ticket and were oblivious to the fact that they'd won €250,000 (US$323,000).
The lucky winners checked the ticket yesterday after they came back from a trip in the sun.
They discovered they'd won the top prize in the Lotto Plus 2 draw on Saturday, August 16, and collected their quarter of a million euro check at Ireland's National Lottery offices today.
"That ticket survived Barcelona, the pick-pocketing capital of the world," said the Dublin man.
"I buy a Lotto ticket every now and then, so I'd almost forgotten about it. I couldn't believe it when I checked yesterday and for the Lottery to confirm it when I called."
The lucky €4 Quick Pick ticket was bought in Centra, Annesley Bridge Road, Fairview Corner, in Dublin 3.
The couple plan to "enjoy it" and do some travelling "maybe New York to start".
"I've family in America, so it will be good to have the excuse to visit them," he added.
This Saturday's Lotto jackpot is an estimated €4.5m.
Thanks to myturn for the tip.
The LUCK of the Irish strikes again ! Congratulations
indeed it does
I'm glad they didn't lose it while on vacationing
This type of thing happens frequently around the world. People will unknowingly sit on a winner for weeks or even months, then all of a sudden - DOH! They realize they've hit the big one.
Nice win!!!
Congrats to The lucky Couple Quick Picks Rule
LOL.. "..."That ticket survived Barcelona, the pick-pocketing capital of the world.."
and now he want to see family in NY...which is tied for first place with pick-pocketing lol
Glad they didn't lose their ticket.
Congratulation to the Ireland, couple on their win. The statement that the couple was in Barcelona, the pick pocket capital of the world. Makes me wonder, what the back of the ticket looks like. I wonder if it a place to sign your ticket on the back. So no one can claim it but you.
The Irish Lottery has a phone app to play online, but you do need an Irish address and bank account.
