An Australian man who won a $1.5 million lottery prize said the ticket spent five weeks stuck to his refrigerator door before he discovered he was a winner.

The Katherine, Northern Territory, man told officials he bought a 50-game QuickPick entry for the May 5 TattsLotto drawing at Katherine Exposure Photographics and he later heard someone in the area had won, but he didn't even consider that it could be him.

"I had the ticket on the fridge at home the whole time," the man said.

He said the ticket was on his refrigerator door for about five weeks before he took it down to check the winning numbers for the drawing: 34, 28, 22, 42, and 45.

"I downloaded the results online and I started going through the ticket and then I saw I had all six numbers in a row," he said. "I only realized how much the prize was today — I wasn't sure if that prize was shared or whether I got that full amount."

The winner received $1.5 million after splitting the jackpot with one other winner.

"Some of it will get used on things we need, but the rest will make a nice little nest egg for our future," he said. "The win won't stop me from entering TattsLotto again. I'll definitely hold onto these winning numbers!"

I Agree! You can't beat tax free. Plus you have the sane policy of remaining anonymous.

By the way, I enjoy the Insight videos I view on YouTube. Jenny Brokie is an excellent Host.

The Windfall program is my favorite. Plus I like many others.

The Fridge door is a good of place as any to have the ticket, lol... I know a few folks that have fridge magnets with all kinds of papers under them.... One looks more like a decorated tree than a door.  Congrats on your lucky win sir

Three positive things to be said for Australia:

1)  Universal Health care

2)  Metric System

3)  Anonymous lottery winners

I shall remember all those points.

To add to those points:
It's where Mad Max was filmed.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, it's where the rock band AC/DC is from.
Also another band, Maeder.    Maeder has a music video called:

Ca plan pour moi ("That works for me."   I think.  Although Google translates it as
"that plane for me". whatever (2007)

Anyway:

Do the Youtube search this way, to get to the "right" one:
"maeder ca plan pour moi"

Maeder is not the original artist of the tune, but they certainly play the heaviest version.

Good luck to all, in tonight's PB drawing.

Yes, and the fridge door sounds like a good place to store lotto tickets anyway.

Back in the day, when I used to walk around with a lot of cash in my pocket, I fear, after a couple of various, un-related mishaps, that the place in your photo, is where a couple $thousand, in total may have ended up.

Must admit that years ago put lottery tickets in the freezer thinking they would turn into cold, hard cash.  You see what transpired--nothing!

Lucky person getting to claim anonymity.

Just this week in NYC a lottery winner was murdered in his apartment.  He won just $10K, awful.
