  Hers was $590 million. The 3 winners got $528.8 million each. So her JP total is still the largest single ticket ever sold. As for the thing with the son. I know what was said, but it didn't seem to me that he was given half. They have her down as the sole winner. If he's supposed to get half of the jackpot then why not claim as co-winners the way friends or families do. And since giving half to a non-spouse is tax suicide., I find it unlikely.

  Right now $590M is a-okay with me. I have no problems in setting my sights on a billion dollar purse, I'm simply saying that Gloria's JP is a record I'd like to break. 

  And yes, because she was so private they did try to find out everything they could. Seems the only person who really opened their mouths to give information on Gloria, the son, and the family was an ex of the son's. Gloria did an unbelievable job of keeping a low profile and within 6 months of claiming the winnings, I never heard anything about her again. No more Walmart sightings etc.

  Was looking up the FL hq and the way it is set up is a looooong walk to visitor parking, perfect for media waylaying types. And you have to claim in Tallahassee apparently, no driving to some far away claim center like you can in NY where you can claim in Manhattan, Schenectady or, which one winner did, up in the Fishkill region. And the cherry on top: I think you have to call ahead and make an appointment.

  I believe you're right on most, if not all counts. Because that's how they waylaid Gloria after she went to the office to do the paperwork and she told them she would not be willing to do a press conference. That was low of MUSL. Compare that to the lengths Camelot is willing to go through to preserve an individuals privacy including escorting winners through back doors, staff rooms, just to help them avoid the press. One preserves privacy, the other violates it.

  Nobody knows for sure, but the chance of it happening is a matter of simple probability. Each ticket sold adds about 62 cents to the cash jackpot, and every 62 cents of cash is about $1 as an annuity, so the advertised annuity value very conveniently works out to about 1 ticket per dollar.

  To see an advertised jackpot of $1 billion or more we just need a rollover from a jackpot that's big enough that sales for the next one take it to $1 billion. The record run rolled from 528 and came up about 50 million short, but since sales seem to be a bit slower now I'll guess that it needs to roll from 600 or more. Getting to $600 million means selling about another 300 million tickets, and the chance of doing that without a winner is about 35%. So at this point the chance of seeing another billion dollar jackpot could be as good as 1 in 3.

  OTOH, it could also be somewhere around 1 in 10. One possibility for that is getting to about $600 and still coming up a bit shy, so 35% chance of 600ish and then a 25 to 35% chance it wouldn't get hit while selling another 300 to 400 million tickets and roll from 900+. The other possibility is that it lands somewhere closer to 500 and sales of 400 million or more tickets still don't push it past a billion. All variations of that work out to roughly a 1 in 10 chance, but they all lead to a rollover from close to a billion, which would mean another jackpot in the 1.5 billion range.

  Ticket sales since the big jackpot was hit have slowed down quite a bit since then. The annuity JP was at 334 million and for that drawing there was 108 million in sales for that drawing. It rolled and the advertised JP started out at 400 million but went to 528 million with ticket sales of 352 million for the drawing. The next drawing started out with a advertised 675 JP but went to 947 million with ticket sales of 880 million. Since then here a few examples of how ticket sales are nowhere near what they were at the 400 million advertised amount like they were than.       

  May 7 415 million JP ticket sales 147 mill

  July 26 422 million JP ticket sales  100 mill

  July 29 478 million JP ticket sales  136 mill 

  Nov 26 403 million JP ticket sales  94 mill 

  Feb 22 403 million JP ticket sales  149 mill

  The only signs of sales picking back up a little is the Nov and Feb drawings where both had starting JP of 403 mill and the Feb sales were 149 mill opposed to Nov sales of 94 mill.

  The next billion dollar jackpot is going to be the mega millions.....not the Powerball. That last one was a fluke......it had never happened before and I am sure they are now cursing it ever did happen.

   

  People are now waiting for 450 million to jump in....where they would have done so at 250 to 300 million

  Greedy? Not me.  I'd be more than happy to win any starting jackpot, including the state one that starts at $7mil which leaves you with about a third of it after taxes. I wont say I buy a ticket for every game but it's the only way you even have a chance of winning.

  If it rolls over on Saturday night,  it increases by $38 million: $375,000,000 or a lump sum of $235,400,000 which is $142,181,600 after taxes.

  I dont know why in increased by so much in 2016. It's not like there hadnt been jackpots in the $300-600 M range before.

  I guarantee that they aren't cursing the billion dollar jackpot. They made more money and got more free publicity for that jackpot than any other in history. Those massive jackpots are their bread and butter. The bigger the jackpot the better for them. Otherwise they'd revert to an easier to win matrix or they'd cap the JP amount.

  I too would prefer Cersei Lannister to Tiny Hands. She always pays her debts, hasn't filed 6 bankruptcies and is educated enough to know Nambia isn't a country.
